Founded in 1999, Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (Latin American School of Medicine) is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the metropolis of Havana (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), La Habana. Officially recognized by the Ministerio de Salud Pública, Cuba (Ministry of Public Health of Cuba), Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (ELAM) is a large coeducational Cuban higher education institution. Escuela Latinoamericana de Medicina (ELAM) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. ELAM also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.
