Established in 2007, Háskólinn á Hólum (Hólar University College) is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the rural setting of the medium town of Sauðárkrókur (population range of 2,500-9,999 inhabitants), Northwestern Region. This institution also has a branch campus in Akureyri. Officially recognized by the Mennta- og menningarmálaráðuneytið (Ministry of Education, Science and Culture of Iceland), Háskólinn á Hólum is a very small coeducational Icelandic higher education institution.
