Founded in 1989, Islamic Azad University, Shabestar is a non-profit private higher-education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Shabestar (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Kurdistan. Officially recognized by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran, Islamic Azad University, Shabestar is a medium-sized coeducational Iranian higher education institution formally affiliated with the Islamic religion. Islamic Azad University, Shabestar offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study.
