Founded in 1982, Islamic Azad University, Zahedan is a non-profit private higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Zahedan (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Sistan and Baluchestan. Officially recognized by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology of Iran, Islamic Azad University, Zahedan is a small coeducational Iranian higher education institution formally affiliated with the Islamic religion. Islamic Azad University, Zahedan offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 40 years old Iranian higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations.
