Established in 1960, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the large metropolis of Tehran (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants). Officially recognized by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) is a large coeducational Iranian higher education institution formally affiliated with the Islamic religion. Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences (SBMU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. This 62 years old Iranian higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.
