Founded in 1947, Universidad de Oriente (University of the East) is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the medium city of Santiago de Cuba (population range of 250,000-499,999 inhabitants). Officially recognized by the Ministerio de Educación Superior, Cuba (Ministry of Higher Education of Cuba), Universidad de Oriente (UO) is a large coeducational Cuban higher education institution. Universidad de Oriente (UO) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study. This 75 years old Cuban higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations. UO also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sports facilities, study abroad and exchange programs, online courses and distance learning opportunities, as well as administrative services.
