Established in 1955, Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta) is a private higher-education institution located in the metropolis of South Tangerang (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Banten. This institution also has a branch campus in Jakarta. Officially recognized by the Kementerian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi, Republik Indonesia (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, Republic of Indonesia), Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) is a large coeducational Indonesian higher education institution formally affiliated with the Islamic religion.
