Established in 2005, University of Makeni is a private higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Makeni (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Northern Province. Officially recognized by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education of Sierra Leone, University of Makeni (UNIMAK) is a coeducational Sierra Leonean higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Catholic religion. University of Makeni (UNIMAK) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. UNIMAK also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.
